Back 1997, my beloved friend and mentor Dr. John Kallas and I, with the help of a handful of story lovers and tonight's featured tellers Jim Hawkins and Elizabeth Rowe, launched this "2nd Tuesday of the Month" series.
The series was billed as "Storytellers from Around the World: Unite!” And, indeed, over the years we've united and featured over 125 tellers - from as near as our own backyard - Greenwich Village - and as faraway as, China, Ireland, Israil, Japan, Scotland, etc., etc. And, of course, countless others have stepped up to the Mic and "swapped" a story. Hmm...and some folks said it “wouldn’t last...”
Ten years later we're going strong and welcome back to our stage, Jim Hawkins and Elizabeth Rowe who started the storytelling ball rolling - so to speak! - Barbara A.

Critically acclaimed vocalist and composer Julia Dollison returns to New York this week to celebrate the release her new self-arranged and produced debut CD, "Observatory." Julia will also be appearing at this week's 2006 IAJE Annual Conference as a guest with the Grammy-winning jazz orchestra conducted by Maria Schneider, who testifies, "I am blown away by her fluidity, beautiful clear sound, her masterful musicianship and her impeccable pitch...an absolute joy!" Rachel Caswell is an award-winning jazz vocalist with a unique style combining extraordinary scatting ability and sensitive song interpretation. Rachel has appeared at colleges and festivals nationwide and continues to gig in support of her debut CD Some Other Time (July 2003) that features pianist, Lynne Arriale, drummer, Steve Davis, bassist, Kelly Sill and violinist, Sara Caswell. In addition to her solo work, she co-leads the Caswell Sisters Quintet with her sister, jazz violinist, Sara Caswell, and frequently performs in duo with bassist, Jeremy Allen, a duo that was selected to perform at the 2006 International Association for Jazz Education’s Annual Conference in New York. A graduate of Indiana University and the New England Conservatory, she has performed with The Glenn Miller Orchestra, John Blake, Jr., Ingrid Jensen, the Billy Taylor Trio and Curtis Fuller and was selected as one of two vocalists for the 1997 Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Colony at Jazz Aspen/Snowmass.
One of the most inventive young vocalists and improvisers around, Sara Leib is proving herself an integral key to the modern jazz scene. Her harmonic approach to scatting, charismatic personality, and endearingly thoughtful stage presence have echoed through the jazz communities of her native Los Angeles and the New England jazz scene.
