Drummer Jeff Williams (Stan Getz, Dave Liebman/Lookout Farm, Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz) returns to Cornelia St. with his quartet, combining members of two of his long-standing musical associations: Duane Eubanks on trumpet, with whom Williams appears on the recent Bill McHenry Quintet CD “Sonic Pressure” (Fresh Sound/New Talent); and John O’Gallagher on alto saxophone, leader of the group Axiom (“Line of Sight”, Fresh Sound/New Talent), of which Williams is also a member. This performance will employ material from Williams’ “Coalescence” (SteepleChase) and “Jazzblues” (Cathexis) releases, contributions from the rest of the group, and a couple of unusual takes on the more familiar, all with an eye toward open expression. The addition of Phil Robson, who Wayne Krantz has noted is "A disturbingly good jazz guitarist," promises an exceptional night.

A sophisticated jazz singer from Peru? -Yes, Peru. In the last 100 years jazz has spread to every section of the globe bringing forth fine Latin jazz musicians from New York, Cuba and Brazil alike.

After the discovery of the Afro-Peruvian music it was only a matter of time before a really good Peruvian jazz musician or singer would show up. Corina Bartra has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.and at the Flushing Town Hall in NYC. Corina holds degrees in jazz percussion and a Master in vocal performance. Bartra was the first vocalist ever to blend jazz with Afro Peruvian music. Her ensemble featured on previous recordings new and imaginative instrumental sounds as well. She also delved into new Latin trends and adventured into realms of exiting sonorities from Brazil. Her new BAMBU SUN, another pioneering ground-braking fusion of jazz and Afro Latin music stands apart from the crowds. It has been given radio played nation wide as well as in Europe, and Peru.
