8:30PM Wendy Luck - The sounds of Brazil - sultry, delicious, heartfelt - is music that has always moved my soul…When pianist/producer/
arranger Cliff Korman suggested we record in Rio with the Brazilian masters - Nelson Faria, Ney Conceição, Kiko Freitas (the
rhythm section of the legendary João Bosco), and with choro band and chorus, it was a dream come true. Percussion wizard
Cyro Baptista and guest bassist Sergio Brandão recorded their signature sounds here in New York City, which helped to bring
Rio home. The palm trees, sand, sea, and sun of Ipanema, Corcovado, and Arpoador whisper a lush landscape where the
sensual sounds of bossa nova, samba, and choro are born. Let the music carry you there. Join me… and I'll "See You in
Rio" ...by way of Cornelia Street Cafe, with wonderful musicians in New York City!
“Wendy Luck is a consummate musician. Her artistic skill and grace shine through whether she is playing flute on a jazz tune,
a choro, or a samba…or singing a ballad or a bossa nova. See You in Rio, her first recording of Brazilian music, is a gem.”

10PM CORINA BARTRA
A sophisticated jazz singer from Peru? -Yes, Peru. In the last 100 years jazz has spread to every section of the globe
bringing forth fine Latin jazz musicians from New York, Cuba and Brazil alike.
After the discovery of the Afro-Peruvian music it was only a matter of time before a really good Peruvian jazz musician or
singer would show up. Corina Bartra has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.and at the Flushing Town Hall in
NYC. Corina holds degrees in jazz percussion and a Master in vocal performance. Bartra was the first vocalist ever to blend
jazz with Afro Peruvian music. Her ensemble featured on previous recordings new and imaginative instrumental sounds as
well. She also delved into new Latin trends and adventured into realms of exiting sonorities from Brazil. Her new BAMBU SUN,
another pioneering ground-braking fusion of jazz and Afro Latin music stands apart from the crowds. It has been given radio
played nation wide as well as in Europe, and Peru.
Scott Yanow writes in L.A.Jazz Scene, "Corina Bartra is an expert at blending together Afro-Peruvian music and post-bop
jazz" while Jim Santella wrote in Cadence magazine."Corina is unique, she has a flexible voice and a down-home delivery
preferring to let her music remain natural."
"There is a slight resemblance to Flora Purim but Bartra's work is tighter and has more melody. This is excellent Afro-Latin
music."
-Jerome Wilson, Cadence
"Bartra is influenced by Afro-Peruvian music, American Jazz, and the scatting of Tania Maria"

"Ureneck's memoir has its own entirely distinctive flow of life...It's hard to write

HOTEL SAINT GEORGE
|
|
|
Book Launch Party for The Musical Illusionist and Other Tales by Alex Rose, the second release from Hotel St. George Press.
Rose reads from the title story to the collection, accompanied by David T. Little's original composition for strings, performed by The Formalist Quartet.
An obscure late-19th century polymath named Phelix Lamark is compelled to explore the elusive boundary between music and sound. He converts a decaying warehouse into a massive laboratory wherein a series of increasingly beguiling sonic experiments are publicly staged. Equal parts musician, scientist and magician, Lamark rises briefly to fame, only to become vilified and at last forgotten by the population he had variously amused, confounded and enchanted. David T. Little's accompanying compositions, performed live by the virtuosic Formalist Quartet, bring to life the music of Phelix Lamark, providing modern-day audiences a glimpse of the impact his defiant style might have had on Victorian Europe--if, in fact, he had existed. These astonishing sonic inventions--at once elegiac, absurd and breathtaking--are further realized by expert sound designer, James Sizemore, who brilliantly recreates the atmosphere of Lamark's fusty laboratory-theater and the musical illusions performed therein.

GNU VOX: DEADRA HART AND BEAT KAESTLI
David Devoe, curator
Deadra Hart, voice;
Beat Kaestli, voice;
Jaime Reynolds, piano;
Gary Wang, bass;
Fred Kennedy, drums
|
|
|
Regarded by fellow jazz singers as “a dynamic improviser who interprets a lyric with sincerity and a beautiful sense
of style,” Deadra Hart’s unique, crystal-clear voice breathes new life into music. This New York City –based vocalist
has lived and performed all over the world, from Los Angeles to the Midwest and from Amsterdam to Ecuador.
Deadra is an active performer, leading a jazz quartet that mixes traditional jazz elements with gorgeous, original
melodies. Her debut album, Wherever I Go has already sold hundreds of copies and can be heard on jazz radio
stations as far away as Indonesia and Australia. Deadra has recently been exploring her newfound passion for the
songs of South America with her Latin jazz trio, Ligaçao. She has been praised by critics and musicians alike as “a
woman who sings with sophistication” (Cincinnati Post) and “a superb musician with exquisite taste” (Paris Rutherford
– Vocal Jazz Arranger).
Beat Kaestli moved to New York from his native Switzerland and received a
scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music. While honing his craft alongside
noteworthy Jazz performers, such as Jane Monheit, Jason Moran and Stefon
Harris, he immersed himself in Manhattan’s fiercely competitive music scene,
emerging as a seasoned performer. He now appears in clubs such as Birdland,
The Jazz Standard, the Kitano, 55Bar and B.B. King’s. In 2005, Beat was the
chosen vocalist for the Glenn Miller Orchestra, thrilling audiences in concert halls
across the USA and since 2006 he is touring the world with his own project and
showcasing his music in renowned clubs across the US, Canada and Europe.
