Joe Fiedler, trombone;  John Hebert, bass;  Michael Sarin, drums
Joe Fiedler Trio image
"Joe Fiedler, a New York trombone player who is genuinely all over the map -- you're equally as likely to see him playing with salsa bands as in free- -- has made an excellent new record, The Crab (Clean Feed), with the bassist John Hebert and the drummer Michael Sarin...you don't get tired of his sound, which is big and gritty. You can hear salsa trombonists like Barry Rogers in his playing, as well as the jazz improvisers Albert Mangelsdorff and Roswell Rudd."

- Time out NY, Oct 2007
"Best New Talent" - All about Jazz, 2004
"...the funk-driven trombonist Reut Regev -- could signal the beginnings of the jazz equivalent of alternative rock's Riot Grrrl phenomenon of the early 1990's."

9:00PM & 10:30PM  RAY ANDERSON TRIO
Ray Anderson, trombone;  Mark Helias, bass;  Jerome Harris, guitar
Ray Anderson Trio image
Mr. Anderson takes his slide trombone to new areas with this drummer-less trio featuring 2 long time associates, bassist Mark Helias and guitarist Jerome Harris.

Mark Helias is one of the finest acoustic bass players in the contemporary jazz avant-garde, a guy who can play inside as well as out and who stretches the boundaries in both directions. Best of both worlds--melodic, harmonized and swinging, yet wide open too. www.markhelias.com

Jerome’ Harris's first major professional performances were as bass guitarist with Sonny Rollins in 1978; from 1988 to 1994 he was Rollins’ guitarist, and appears on five of his recordings. Over the past two decades, Jerome has also recorded and/or performed live on six continents with such jazz notables as Jack DeJohnette, Bill Frisell, Ray Anderson, Don Byron, Bobby Previte, Oliver Lake, Amina Claudine Myers, Bob Stewart, George Russell, Julius Hemphill, and Bob Moses. www.jeromeharris.com

"Anderson is a true and total original." (Fred Bouchard, Jazz Times)

"Ray's chops are phenomenal - from swooping legato to breakneck staccato, from the nastiest growls to the sweetest whimpers - but it's evident that he's not about technique, that he'll sometimes altogether forget technique. It's the feeling he's playing,..."
