4 Storytellers. 3 true stories. 1 pack of lies.

laugh, make you cringe, or just make you glad you don't live with
them. But listen carefully, because somebody is making it all up.
After the stories have been told, you'll have an opportunity to
question the storytellers and try to expose the Liar. Guess right and
win a fashionable "I Can Tell A Lie" t-shirt.
Hosted by Andy Christie (NY Times, Moth GrandSLAM Story Champion)
The June 2 show features:
DJ Hazard (American Misfits), Joanna Parson ("Joanna knocks us out!" - NYTheater.com),

The Face in the Mirror: Reflections of the Animal Mind
Do other animals share with us a sense of self? How big and complex a brain does it take to recognize that the one staring back at you in a mirror - is you! Diana Reiss, cognitive psychologist at Hunter College and senior research scientist at Wildlife Conservation Society presents her compelling work showing that dolphins and elephants, along with great apes and humans are members of an exclusive club whose members recognize themselves.
And can elephants make art and music? We'll explore this question with a brand-new video of musician Dave Soldier teaching and conducting the Thai Elephant Orchestra, and a presentation of elephant art by David Ferris, director of the Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project.

GMT_EXPRESS & JUSTIN ROTHBERG TRIO
|
|
|
1st set: JUSTIN ROTHBERG TRIO:
Justin Rothberg, guitar; Gil Smuskowitz, acoustic bass; Hiroyuki
Matsuura, drums
The Justin Rothberg Trio plays original jazz/funk music. Taking inspiration from a variety of different styles, the trio's
focus is always on improvisation.
"We try to explore a variety of different styles of music. While the trio is firmly dedicated to jazz, we try to stay as open
minded as possible. Songs are influenced by hiphop, funk, dub reggae, Latin, world music, and anything else the band has
been listening to. To keep the music from sounding stiff, everyone tries to trust each other's musical taste. Even though I write
all of the tunes, it's still a very open vibe on stage. No matter what song the band is playing, we're always open to
experimentation."

2nd set: GMT_EXPRESS :
Gerald Thomas, saxophones, compositions; Justin Rothberg,
guitars;
Jack Glottman, piano; Gil Smuskowitz, acoustic bass; Jeffrey White Jr., electric
bass; Eduardo Sanchez, percussion; Hiroyuki Matsuura, drums
with Special Guests:
Scott Reeves, trombone, alto fluegelhorn; Michael C. Lewis, trumpet,
fluegelhorn; Poul Weis, trumpet, flugelhorn; Randal Watson, acoustic guitar, trombone; Alex
Moses, flute, alto flute; Sean White, soprano saxophone
This band, put together by Gerald M. Thomas to showcase his music,
represents a very diverse range of style and expression. Brazilian
sambas mixed with hard-driving funk, traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms
underpinning lyrical melodies and Neo-Soul harmonies are just some of
the combinations employed cohesively and tastefully for this particular
group. The band is composed of a full rhythm section (guitar, piano,
drums and percussion) and several horns (saxophones, flugelhorn and
trombone) with a mixed electric/acoustic sound.
Gerald is a native New York saxophonist, bassist and composer, and a
graduate of City College with a BFA in Jazz performance. He has worked
for many years in many different venues, but is primarily a
straight-ahead jazz tenor man. Tonight, you will hear him on alto, soprano, and tenor.

|
|
The Brad Shepik Trio plays in support of their recently released and critically aclaimed cd
"Places You Go".
Shepik’s new release “Places You Go,” has garnered a burst of critical acclaim including a 4 star review in Downbeat
while Allaboutjazz wrote “Shepik’s gorgeous tone and intricate skill reverberate with a dusty, open-road mentality on slow
tracks like 'Five and Dime', each note the guitarist touches glows with aching poignancy.”
Pop Matters Music Review said, “Shepik is one of the new jazz players who have redefined the “creative” or avant-
garde side of the music in a way that is challenging but also beautiful and fun.”
Shepik’s trio has masterful group interplay and soloing throughout a beautifully varied yet cohesive set of originals, from
ballads to Americana to jazz rock and straight ahead. “Balances freedom and structure…Shepik is the anchor…he’s truly
improvising without a net.” Jazztimes
