THE DAVE SCOTT QUINTET
Dave Scott, trumpet;  Rich Perry, tenor sax;  Gary Versace, piano;  Johannes Weismueller, bass;  Jeff Williams, drums

The Dave Scott Quintet features some of New York’s finest improvisers. Their experiences range from traditional forms of jazz to the extremely experimental and atonal. Dave Scott’s compositions reflect both specific forms with dense harmonic structures and open frameworks for free improvisation. The focus of the group is to utilize the engaging and often complex compositions as vehicles for improvisation. The pieces develop interactively and organically allowing each musician full individual expression.

HASHEM ASSADULLAHI QUARTET
Hashem Assadullahi, alto sax;  Leonard Thompson, piano;  Peter Brendler, bass;  Vinnie Sperrazza, drums
Hashem Assadullahi Quartet image

Originally formed in 2008 with a broad array of influences and eclectic musical tastes, the Hashem Assadullahi Quartet performs material that draws from straight-ahead jazz, avante garde, pop, and rock traditions. Over the years, the group has accumulated a strong and stylistically varied original repertoire, catered to the ensemble's proclivity for collective improvisation. With a penchant for melody and narratives, the majority of Hashem's pieces are vehicles for telling stories or portraying characters. The group has released two albums: Strange Neighbor (8bells, 014) and Pieces (OA2 records, 22097), frequently highlighted on NPR's Morning Edition and Fresh Air.

“Assadullahi is of a new generation of jazz musicians who have the compositional understanding, technique and improvisational skill to create complex works with beautiful melodies while at the same time drawing on a multitude of styles.”--Elliot Simon, NYC Jazz Review

This would be the first time we all play together in this trio. Billy Hart is a force of nature and a hero to my generation. Pairing him with the groovy & melodic playing of Ben Williams sounds like such an interesting and beautiful combination in my mind.

DENISE MANGIARDI TRIO, with MARK SOSKIN AND JAY ANDERSON image

A Unique Contemporary Female Footed Jazz Vocalist Composer comes to New York for a rare performance!

With her propitious musical upbringing (education at Berklee, long residencies in NYC, New Orleans, and now London), one could expect Denise Mangiardi to be a superior jazz woman, and she is. Her range is vast, with a voice feathery or fervent as the music demands; her songwriting covers funk, Braziliana, blues, straight-ahead jazz, always thoughtfully and in the pocket." ---Tom McDermott, New Orleans pianist/jour"

Becca Stevens is one of my favorite singers, and very well known for her original music. But the few times that I heard her singing standards was so special and left a taste for more. We'll do an all-standard set, all in the moment - unplanned. And what do I need to say about Antonio Sanchez? A legend. This is a special combination I am looking forward to being a part of.

Hekselfest: w/Joel Ross, Nate Wood image

Joel Ross is a name that kept coming up way too often for anyone to ignore. He does sound amazing. And Nate is a bad dude himself. who can play multiple instruments and has such a great sense of production in real time. This bass-less band can go in so many directions in my imagination and I look forward to finding out these possibilities.
