SHAKESPEARE'S DARK LADY

John Hudson's book SHAKESPEARE'S DARK LADY has just been published by Amberley Publishing. It
shows that the major author of those plays was a dark-skinned, Marrano Jewish woman, the
experimental poet Amelia Bassano Lanier--the first woman to publish a book of original poetry. She was
in all the right places at the right times to gain the rare knowledge in the plays. And there are parallels
between her poetry and the Shakespearean Romances. John will talk informally in between giving
readings from the book. Unless you can stop him, he will probably also talk about Othello which his
company the Dark Lady Players is staging in midtown 11-13 April at New Perspectives Theater to show
that the play is a black Jewish comedy and that author wrote herself into it.

Few musicians can be credited with creating their own genre but that’s precisely what Scott Feiner has done with
his Pandeiro Jazz project. Upon the release of Feiner’s first album in 2006 the celebrated pianist Brad Melhdau
wrote, "Scott Feiner has created a unique sonic world ... full of subtlety and surprise." A View From Below, his
fourth album, marks an exciting turning point for Feiner, as it's his first recording to consist solely of his engaging
original compositions. It’s also a stylistic departure due to the unique format featuring pandeiro, guitar and
keyboards - a surprising new take on the concept of a “power trio.” A native of New York City, Feiner has been
spending most of his time in Rio de Janeiro over the last decade, so this is a rare opportunity to see this group
live.

Paul Hecht has been an actor for quite some time, and has done just about everything in the business
there is.He received a Nomination for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and an Obie for Pirandellos
Henry IV at the old Roundabout. He has recorded dozens of audio books. He reads to elementary
students at PS 261 in Brooklyn as part of Screen Actors Guilds Bookpals program, and was the SAG
branch president. He convenes these literary musical events on a regular basis on this tiny stage at his
oldest friends café in Greenwich Village.

Richard Easton has appeared in 26 of the plays - all over the world - 76 productions - at Stratford-
on-Avon, Stratford Canada and Stratford Conn., in London, New York, San Diego, plus tours of Europe,
the US, and the rest of the world. He is proudest of having played Edgar to John Gielgud's last Lear.
Barbara Feldon is best known as “99” -- the secret Agent on the TV series, Get Smart. During
her career she has performed in television films, variety shows, and motion pictures, (only one
of which she wishes to recall: the Michael Richie film Smile).
On stage Barbara performed in the Circle in the Square production of Past Tense, the off
Broadway musical Cut the Ribbons, and her one woman show, Love for Better or Verse. Over
the years she has developed a number of poetry and prose readings: Great Love Poetry,
Pablo Neruda in His Own Words, Jane Austin, and Virginia Woolf.
Her book of essays, Living alone -- and Loving it! was published in 2003 by Simon and
Schuster.
Lutenist Hank Heijink (pronounced Hey-ink) has played all over the world with leading
ensembles such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, European Union Baroque Orchestra,
Orchestre d’Auvergne, TENET, Mark Morris Dance Group and the Wooster Group, among
others. He is in high demand as an accompanist on theorbo, lute and guitar, and his playing
has been described as “eloquent” (Wall Street Journal) and “deft and sensitive” (New York
Times).
Hayden DeWitt is very pleased to return to the Cornelia Street Cafe` which is, by far, the
hippest venue
she has ever played! She has appeared as part of Paul Hecht's menagerie here twice before.
Her debut
was in 2011's Mahler program singing "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" as well as songs by
Mahler's
wife, Alma. Last November she was a part of "Songs of Travel," an homage to Robert Louis
Stevenson,
performing the oponymous song cycle by Ralph Vaughan Williams in a cast that included Paul,
the lovely
Barbara Feldon and soprano Judith Barnes.

The Sonnet Man was a big hit in England at Stratford Upon Avon, and will be performing this July at The
Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. Devon was recently chosen as the winner of The L.A.Times
Book Festival "Inspire Us Poetry" award. Devon is returning to the venue where he made his debut
performance.
Cornelia St fans know Ellen's songs to poems by WB Yeats, Thomas Hardy, and e.e. cummings. She's
also written music for over 60 plays, as Resident Composer at the Jean Cocteau Rep, the Mint Theater,
and beyond. For this show, Jessica and Ellen will perform her sassy, jazzy, and lyrical songs from 12th
Night, Love's Labours Lost, Othello and others.
Jessica Crandall played Kassandra in Agamemnon at La MaMa (Innovative Theatre Award nomination),
and Rose of Sharon in The Grapes of Wrath at Trinity Rep, and has sung many of Ellen's songs at
Cornelia St Café, the Wild Project and other venues.

Their debut album “Borderfall” has been cataloged as one of the best releases of 2012 by CriticalJazz.com.Novas Trio started in 2011 when Rodrigo and Carlos decided to perform without bass and investigate the possibilities this strange marriage of instruments might deliver. Jeff joined a year later, just before the recording of “Borderfall” in February 2012. I am not keen on labels (anymore) however as a necessary evil, “sounds like?” is certainly a fair question. There is an open ended abstraction of a John Abercrombie/ Gary Burton/ Paul Motion vibe going on. Harmonically and lyrically there is that distinct gift of playing with purpose that is infectious. Vera is a virtuoso on vibes. Miles is a beast on guitar, as artistically gifted as he is technically proficient. Recabarren owns the pocket while providing the sonic nuances that bring this trio together as one voice. Atari Blues and Crystal Spire open the set and are two personal favorites with controlled sonic fury and instrumental prowess rarely seen. (…) Easily one of the best of the year.
