Contemporary vibraphonist Dan McCarthy returns to Cornelia Street with some of New York's finest improvisors to present an evening of original and avant-garde jazz. Known for his "show-stopping" and "arresting" style (George Harris, All About Jazz Los Angeles), McCarthy has been a regular performer on the NY jazz scene since 2004. He has performed or recorded with musicians such as Steve Swallow, Ben Monder, Ari Hoenig, and George Garzone.

Dan's dark and brooding compositional style, along with his unexpected and angular improvisation, has led Nate Chinen at The New York Times to label Dan as "a vibraphonist with a charismatic and pointedly contemporary style".

Jochen Rueckert presents his double guitar quartet "Guitar Center" with longtime collaborators Mike Moreno and Lage Lund. KAVITA SHAH is a vocalist, composer, and ethnographer who makes work in deep engagement with the jazz idiom while addressing and advancing its global sensibilities. Hailed by NPR for possessing an “amazing dexterity for musical languages,” here Kavita presents her new "Lusophone Music Project," uniting Portuguese-language music from Brazil, Cape Verde, and the Indian Ocean. This project is inspired by Kavita's ethnographic field research in northeastern Brazil, Cape Verde, and India, supported in part by the Jerome Foundation and the Asian Cultural Council.

Ruby Stenhouse is a writer and performer from Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Brown University in 2017 with degrees in art history and French and now works as a gallery associate for a New York and London based gallery. From a young age she studied dance under performance artist, choreographer, and writer Mary Paula Hunter. Since moving to New York last year, she has performed in Sibyl Kempson’s 12 Shouts of the Ten Forgotten Heavens at the Whitney Museum and was invited to sit for Maria Baranova’s ongoing photography project, Faces of the Downtown Scene. Her writing has been featured on the Rhode Island Public Radio segment This I Believe—New England. Ruby is honored, thrilled, and a little nervous to be performing alongside her longtime writing mentor and immensely talented aunt, Shelley Stenhouse.

Tony Gloeggler is a life-long resident of New York City and has managed group homes for the mentally challenged for over 35 years. His work has appeared in Rattle, Columbia Poetry Review, Chiron Review, New Ohio Review, The Paterson Literary Review, and The New York Times. His poem “1969” is the 6th most viewed poem in Rattle’s 25-year history. His books include One Wish Left (Pavement Saw Press 2002) and Until the Last Light Leaves (NYQ Books 2015). His next book, What Kind of Man, will be published by NYQ Books in late 2018.

Legendary drummer and percussionist Barry Altschul has shared the stage with uncompromising artists such as Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Sam Rivers, Anthony Braxton, Paul Bley and many more. His current trio, the 3Dom Factor, released their debut record last year on TUM Records. Their follow-up CD, Tales of the Unforeseen, comes out this year, and Barry and crew celebrate its release tonight at the Cornelia St Cafe, featuring Joe Fonda on bass and Jon Irabagon on saxophone. They will be performing some jazz classics, some of Barry's originals as well as some free group improvisations.
