JON DE LUCIA QUARTET, CD RELEASE: AS THE RIVER SINGS
Jon De Lucia, saxophones, clarinet;  Greg Ruggiero, guitar;  Sean Smith, bass;  Billy Mintz, drums

Jon De Lucia is celebrating the release of his third CD as a leader, As The River Sings, on Fresh Sound New Talent. The focus is melody, some as simple as nursery rhymes, others extensive intervallic excursions. From the opening chant-like drone, to the Irish folk-inspired St. Brendan’s Isle, this music is a culmination of De Lucia’s interests in a broad variety of musical traditions and a statement of the great sensitivity of the musicians in the quartet. For this concert De Lucia will be joined by Greg Ruggiero on guitar, Sean Smith on bass and Billy Mintz on the drums.

“The alto saxophonist creates music that moves deliberately, with melodies that are as rich as they are gentle... This music shines with intelligence and spirit.” - Richard Kamins, Step Tempest

Glasser/Taubenhouse image

Glasser/Taubenhouse presents the friendship and musical work of saxophonist Dave Glasser and pianist Yaniv Taubenhouse. The group's repertoire contains mostly songs that were written in the first half of the twentieth century. In their musical approach, Glasser/Taubenhouse perform melodic, freely adventurous improvised interpretations within a composition's structure. Listeners are treated to a soaring journey of beauty, emotion, and technical mastery.

“Glasser’s sound, technical approach, melodic inventiveness, and relentless swinging provide a superlative model of how to play modern straight-ahead jazz“ - Craig W. Hurst, jazzREVIEW

"Taubenhouse's musical personality and vision is so strong. His music has an intensity which comes from this purity of vision, but which, however, is balanced and underpinned by an emotional optimism that is very appealing.“ -Budd Kopman, All About Jazz

"Sporting a rich, dark sound on the bass, Michael Blanco has been a highly sought-after talent since arriving in New York in 2000. DOUBLE FEATURE POETRY LAUNCH image

Tonight Alison & Carl will be reading from respective new books, to help us navigate these parlous times …

Alison Hawthorne Deming's STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (Penguin 2016), is a work exploring art and place as consolation for losses in family and nature, a means to build again a sense of self and world in face of devastating loss.

Alison Deming knows more about the world than almost anybody, and thank the stars she's willing to share her wisdom. --Bill McKibben author Deep Economy

Carl Rosenstock’s THE MYSTERY OF SYSTEMS (CW Books 2017) parses those spaces where truth lies.

Carl Rosenstock's way with words is labyrinthine and his imagination is gargantuan. Reading his poems is tantamount to a free fall through music and light.” — Deborah DeNicola
